LOWER POTTSGROVE - Lauren Hesser, Ginny Smith and Nora Gerstenberger scored goals as Phoenixville's field hockey team defeated Pottsgrove, 3-1, in Pioneer Athletic Conference action Monday.

Goalkeeper Rachel Yacovett made four saves for the Phantoms (3-3, 4-4), who led 2-1 at halftime.

Katie Tellis scored for the Falcons.

Phoenixville hosts Perkiomen Valley Wednesday afternoon.

Rams edge Trojans

POTTSTOWN - Ashley Wood's first-half goal gave Spring-Ford a 1-0 victory over Pottstown.

Wood scored for the Rams (4-5-1) at the 28:08 mark. Goalie Lauren Battista made four saves in the shutout of the Trojans. Kaylee Shumaker registered seven saves for the Trojans.

Spring-Ford hosts Lansdale Catholic Wednesday.

Patriots drop Devils

WEST GROVE - Kim Wenger scored two goals and Jeff Keleshian had one as Great Valley stayed undefeated with a 3-1 victory over Avon Grove in Southern Chester County League action.

Wenger and Meg Cassels had assists for the Patriots (6-0, 9-0). Angela Danis scored for the Red Devils with an assist by Carla Jones.

Steph Berger recorded five saves in goal for Great Valley and Mandee Kranse stopped four shots for Avon Grove.

The Patriots visit Delco Christian Wednesday at 4 p.m.


Pius downs Pius

BANGOR - St. Pius X (Pottstown) shut out host Pius X (Rosetto), 3-0, in non-league action. Game scores were 25-15, 25-12 and 25-17.

Marie Iwaniuk had nine kills and three digs for the victors, while Chrissy Esbensen chipped in seven kills and five assists and Melissa Mansur added six kills, two digs and a block. Lauren Russo had 25 assists in the victory, as the Winged Lions improved to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the Bicentenial League.


Wildcats beat Bears

BOYERTOWN - Owen J. Roberts won three singles matches and two doubles matches en route to a 5-2 PAC-10 victory over Boyertown.

Julia Kurtz, Kelsey McCausland and Allison Pierson won singles matches in straight sets for the Wildcats.

At first doubles, Christen St. Pierre and Morgan Crider won a three-set match for the Wildcats. Sam Sibley and Lauren Saylor also won at second doubles.

Patriots stop Indians

UNIONVILLE - Great Valley won three of four doubles matches and at first singles with Anisha Malhotra in a 4-3 SCCL victory over Unionville.

Malhotra defeated Ritika Trika 6-0, 6-3 at first singles.

The Patriots won at first doubles in straight sets with Nupur Shridahr and Stephanie Lin and in three sets at second doubles with Deepthi Shashidar and Kelly Carney. The final point came at fourth doubles with Cara Mulqueen and Abby Spengeman.


Rams blank Trojans

POTTSTOWN - Spring-Ford jumped to a 4-0 halftime lead on its way to a 10-0 shutout of Pottstown in PAC-10 action.

Jean Carlo Cordoba scored three goals for the Rams while Jack McClurkin had two and Joe McHugh, Kyle Niemann, Mitch DuFour and Anthony Hill one apiece.

Ryan Hunsberger made one save in the shutout.

Lions bow to Vikes

GRATERFORD - Devon Picardi and Matt Mansur scored St. Pius X goals in a 5-2 setback to Perkiomen Valley.

Picardi scored with an assist by Mansur at the third minute and Mansur scored unassisted at the 46th minute.


Wildcats blank Lions

BUCKTOWN - Owen J. Roberts scored four first-half goals en route to a 5-0 PAC-10 shutout of St. Pius X Monday night.

Meghan Morton accumulated 18 saves for the Winged Lions.


VFCC bows

Valley Forge Christian College won the first game, but the Patriots dropped a 3-2 decision to Immaculata Saturday.

VFCC won the opener 30-20 and the Patriots also sook the fourth game, 33-31.

Immaculata won by 31-29, 30-19 and 15-10 verdicts.
