In Class AA, Phoenixville senior Christianne Persenaire won her first-round match 6-2, 6-0 over Lower Moreland's Elyssa Kaplan. Persenaire then dropped her quarterfinal match to Oleysa Kuchma of Radnor 6-0, 6-3.

Persenaire, the league runner-up, was the only PAC-10 player to win a match on the opening day of the tournament.

Also in Class AA, St. Pius X's Lisa Cappelletti fell in the first round in a three-set marathon to Aubrey Bookman of Springfield Montco 2-6, 6-2, 6-3.

In Class AAA, Spring-Ford's Kaeley McCabe, the PAC-10 champion, ran into second-seeded Teresa Stangl of Avon Grove in the first round and fell by a 6-0, 6-2 score.

Also in the first round, Owen J. Roberts' Sarah Holskin lost by default to Kennett's Erin Farrell. Perkiomen Valley's Laura Kratz was beaten by Lauran Rossi of Pennsbury 6-2, 6-0, and Vikings teammate Hannah Schoff dropped a 6-1, 6-0 verdict to Katie D'Ambrosia of Marple Newtown.


Winged Lions fall

St. Pius X bowed to host Perkiomen School, 6-3, in non-league action Friday in Pennsburg.

Dan Coleman, Matt Eliff and Sean Hyde scored goals for the Winged Lions (4-12). Matt Mansur assisted on Eliff's goal as Pius X trailed by only 3-2 at halftime.


Great Valley wins

Nicole Haines scored a goal with 10 minutes left in the second half to give Great Valley a 1-0 Southern Chester County League victory over Interboro Friday.

Kelsey Morgan provided the assist.

Goalkeeper Lesedi Vine made two saves in the shutout for the Patriots (5-5 league, 6-8-1 overall).
