SENIOR BABE RUTH

Aces win third straight in league

KIMBERTON - The Kimberton Aces won their third Ches-Mont Senior Babe Ruth League contest in a row, defeating visiting Boyertown 3 by a 13-3 score.

The Aces once again jumped out to an early lead, scoring five runs in the top of the first. Aaron Jones led off with a walk and promptly stole second. Mike Auriemma cracked a double to right-center field and Jones scored easily. Matt Keck walked and Al Moreland reached base on an error. Nick Wagner then drove both in with a double to left-center. Steve Coppins followed with an RBI single.

The Aces extended their lead with a four-run third. Auriemma, Wagner and Coppins reached base on three singles with Auriemma scoring on Wagner's hit. A double by Jim Labik drove home two. Moreland also scored after reaching base on another error. Ryan Rogala went the distance, pitching no-hit baseball until it was spoiled in the sixth, striking out five and allowing only two hits for the complete game win. That broke a 15-inning stretch of no-hit baseball from Aces hurlers during the past three games, starting with Buddy Glatz at Pine Forge, Wagner against Boyertown 2 and Rogala. Auriemma, Wagner and Coppins each had three hits for the Aces who are 3-0 in league play and 3-1 overall.

Glatz pitched a complete game, nine strikeout two-hitter, but it wasn't enough as state championship runner-up Pine Forge squeaked out a 2-1 win at Pine Forge Stadium in Boyertown in a Chesmont Senior Babe Ruth contest.

Both Pine Forge runs were unearned as they took advantage of four Aces errors and took a 2-0 lead after four innings. The score remained 2-0 until Kimberton staged a last-inning rally. Tom Yeager led off with a walk and Aaron Jones sacrificed him to second base. Tom Coffman singled for his second hit of the game and Chaz Ferko knocked him in with a basehit to center.

However, that was all the Aces could muster as they left the bases loaded to end the game. Ferko joined Coffman with two hits while Wagner and Shannon Cooley each had one. There were no extra-base hits in the ballgame.
