Phoenixville sophomore Kat Garone is an exceptional swimmer on both levels, but more importantly as a member of the Phantoms' girls swim team this season.
While participating in a number of events - mainly in ones that can allow her team to utilize her speed to gain more points in meets - Garone has excelled in the pool.
Her efforts this season have earned Garone The Phoenix's Female Athlete of the Week honors.
"I swim the 50 free and 100 back," noted Garone, the daughter of Vincent and Susan Garone. "I compete in a variety of different events though."
The Schuylkill Township resident also participates in soccer and track for the Phoenixville Area High School teams, and Garone admits that soccer is probably her favorite.
"But I like the other ones, too," she said.
This season has been much better than last for the Phantoms. While lacking in numbers, the team has been more competitive in their meets in the Pioneer Athletic Conference.
There are the definite powers of Boyertown and Owen J. Roberts in the league, but the Garone and the Phantoms are making their strides in the pool.
Obviously, being that she is just a sophomore Garone still has plenty of time to think about her aspirations for after graduation, but one thing she knows for sure, she is "definitely going to college."
