And so Phoenixville and Daniel Boone collided in a battle of club teams in boys lacrosse action at Phoenixville Area High School.

The Phantoms had jumped out to an early lead, but would have to tighten up their defensive efforts down the stretch to hold off a valiant comeback attempts by the Blazers for a 10-9 win.

"We sure made it interesting (at the end)," said Phoenixville coach Jim O'Brien. "Overall, the kids are continuing to make progress. We are just a club team in our fourth year that is trying to get better with our stick skills and our understanding of the game."

The Phantoms had taken a 3-1 lead in the first quarter on a goal by Steve McNeill and a pair by Brendan Pancott.

Tim Wiley recorded the Blazers' goal.

"We don't run set plays for certain players, just rather work the ball around to get an open shot," said O'Brien. "(The Blazers) were playing a zone against us, and much like in basketball, you have to be patient and work for an opening."

The Phantoms and Blazers traded goals in the second quarter with Mike Heacock closing out the first half of scoring with a rifle from the top of the circle that gave Phoenixville a 6-4 advantage heading into the break.

Pancott added his third goal in that second stanza giving himself a hat trick for the contest. His scoring opportunities coming from "being in the right place at the right time.

"We really work the ball around from behind the cage to get someone an open shot," Pancott admitted. "We have been doing a lot of work with our passing game as to set each other up in the right positions to score."

The Phantoms - who improved to 3-2 on the season - slowed things down a bit in the second half in an effort to preserve their lead.

Luke O'Brien score the first of his three goals in the half just three minutes in.

Pancott added his fourth tally of the contest at the 6:28 mark to make the score 8-4.

Daniel Boone responded however with back-to-back goals by Josh Greenland and Kyle Fizz just four minutes apart. That sequence left the Blazers down just 8-6 heading into the final 12-minutes.

Luke O'Brien's second goal of the half with an assist from Chip Mittnacht at the 3:07 mark pushed the lead back to 9-6. His third goal just over four minutes later proved to be the game-winner as DB's Greenland notched two more and Wiley added another to round out the scoring in the final 2:40.

"I am extremely impressed with our effort today," said Daniel Boone coach Tim Greenland. "The kids really worked hard and never gave up. This is my first year as coach, and we are doing this all on our own. We only us the Boone name."

NOTES ... Pancott added a pair of assists to his credit, while McNeill contributed three helpers. Dylan Moulton won the final draw - as he had done most of the afternoon - with :27 left in the game to cement the Phantoms' win.
