Zwaan has been one of the team's leading scorers for much of the 2003-2004 season, and for her efforts has been selected The Phoenix's Female Athlete of the Week.
Brother Bill graduated from Great Valley last year and is now a member of the West Chester University football program, which father Bill Zwaan, Sr. is the head coach.
The athletic roots for the family are certainly there, which explains Carrie's natural talent on the hardwood.
"She is one of the most reliable players we have,"Patriots coach Jim Marshall said. "She is just an outstanding team player who does whatever it takes to make everyone around her successful. She is the consummate team player. She is just tremendous to have around."
Zwaan is excited about how well things have turned out thus far for her and her Great Valley teammates. They have already surpassed last season's win total with about two weeks left to play.
"We have been getting better each time out,"she said. "We have passed our record from last year. Our games have been much closer since Christmas, and we've won more.
"We basically even out on the points. I know we can handle anything now."
Zwaan also plays field hockey for the Patriots in the fall as a midfielder and defensive back.
Upon graduation in 2005, Zwaan is hoping to continue onto college in either the Boston (Mass.) area or down south in North or South Carolina.
"I may decide that I want to just go somewhere around here though,"she admitted.
For the remainder of the season, Zwaan is just hoping that her and her teammates can continue to stay competitive.
"Basically I would like to keep playing well, playing hard,"she said. "We are definitely going to miss the seniors next year, so we want to do well for them."
