PHOENIXVILLE - Following a six-month investigation, a Phoenixville man was arrested Saturday night on drug charges after police executed a drug search warrant on his residence along Schuylkill Road.
Steven Martin, 20, of the 500 block of Schuylkill Road, Phoenixville, is charged with manufacture of a controlled substance, drugs, device or cosmetic; possession of a controlled substance, drugs, device or cosmetic; and possession of drug paraphernalia with the intent to use.
According to Officer William Kelly of the East Pikeland Police Department, Saturday night's arrest was a result of an ongoing investigation he'd been conducting into Martin's activities for six months.
"I received numerous complaints of traffic going in and out of (the residence) for the past six months," said Kelly. "During this time, there've been numerous drug arrests of individuals that've been leaving the residence. These subjects have had cocaine and marijuana in their possession."
Kelly said as a result of these arrests, he conducted surveillance of the residence between 1 and 5 p.m. May 2.
"I watched at least 16 vehicles enter (the residence), with one individual getting out of the vehicle and walking around to the rear kitchen door," he said. "Each subject was inside (the residence) for a period of 2-3 minutes at a time, and then they'd leave."
Another surveillance of the residence occurred on May 9, said Kelly, between the hours of noon and 2 p.m.
"I watched six different vehicles enter the residence, with one individual getting out of the vehicle and walking around to the rear kitchen door," he said. "Each subject was inside (the residence) for a period of 2-3 minutes at a time before leaving the property."
One of those vehicles leaving the residence on May 9 was stopped by East Pikeland Police.
"The driver was in possession of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia," said Kelly. "He told us that he purchased the marijuana from a male named Steve, and the purchase was made inside (the residence)."
Kelly said that a drug search warrant was executed at the residence Saturday night around 7:49 p.m., which led to the arrest of Martin.
"There was one male inside the house, later identified as Martin," he said. "He was taken into police custody and transported back to the police station."
As a result of the search warrant, police found cocaine and packaging material inside the house.
"The cocaine was packaged ready for delivery," said Kelly. "I field tested the cocaine, with a positive presence for cocaine. The cocaine was packaged into evidence to be sent to the Pennsylvania State Police Lima Labs for further analysis."
While Martin was being Live Scanned at Schuylkill Township Police Station, it was revealed that Martin has two active bench warrant out of Philadelphia. One warrant is for possession of a controlled substance, and the second warrant is for theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.
Martin was then transported to West Chester to be arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Mark Bruno, West Chester, Sunday morning.
He was remanded to Chester County Prison in lieu of $7,500 cash bail.
His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, May 17, 2007, at 9 a.m.
