PHOENIXVILLE - A Phoenixville man was arrested on assault charges after he allegedly hit a borough woman in the face and slammed her head into the shower floor late Tuesday afternoon.
Luis Velazquez, 24, of the 700 block of Parkview Drive, Phoenixville, is charged with simple assault; harassment; and disorderly conduct.
According to court documents, Officer Brett Popiny said he was dispatched to a residence along the 700 block of Parkview Drive for a report of a physical domestic around 5:10 p.m. January 30.
Upon arrival, Popiny said he spoke with Velazquez, who told police he was involved in a physical altercation with the woman, who left the residence before police arrived.
Popiny said he was able to speak with the woman, whose name is being withheld by The Phoenix.
She told police that Velazquez started the physical altercation in the bathroom and it continued into the living room.
"She said that Velazquez began to hit her in the face while she was in the shower," said Popiny. "He also slammed her head into the shower floor."
The woman told police Velazquez ripped her shirt off and began to punch her.
"(She) was able to free herself by biting Velazquez several times," said Popiny. "The victim then ran to the management officer of the complex."
Popiny said he observed several fresh injuries to the woman, including a bloody nose and several cuts.
Velazquez was taken into custody and transported to the Phoenixville Police Station. He was arraigned before District Justice J. Peter Winther, West Chester, Tuesday night.
Velazquez was released after posting ten percent of $5,000 cash bail on Wednesday. His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday, February 8, 2007, at 9 a.m.
