PHOENIXVILLE - Three new members were appointed to Phoenixville's planning commission by borough council last week.
Edwin Soto, the previous North Ward council candidate, received a unanimous (8-0) vote to the term expiring March 31, 2018. Jon Ewald was voted 6-2 for the term expiring March 31, 2017 and Justin Baird received a 7-1 vote for the term expiring March 31, 2016.
Seven members of the public interviewed before the meeting last Tuesday in which the appointments were voted on.
'There were a lot of great candidates out there and I want to thank everybody for coming out because it was a great pool to choose from,' said Councilman Jon Ichter Jr.
Baird interviewed last month for the East Ward seat that Shai Perednik eventually was appointed to fill.
The trio fill spaces left open by the resignation of Mike Kuznar and Perednik forced by their joining council and the straight resignation of Joseph Perez.
Kuznar and Perednik's resignations were officially accepted before the votes on their replacements.
In addition to the three freshmen, council also reappointed Tom Carnevale to the commission for another term. The term is set to expire March 31, 2018 and the vote was unanimous.
Joseph McFarland was also voted unanimously to fill an open seat for the borough zoning hearing board.
