PHOENIXVILLE - Part beagle and part basset hound, Hobbes Martynick was chosen by the staff of The Phoenix as the Pet Photo contest winner for January.
Ten entrants vied for $225 worth of gift certificates, courtesy of area pet-related businesses.
Proud owners Claire and George Martynick exclaimed in unison, "He's our baby!"
"I'm embarrassed to admit it but we spoil him rotten," said George.
Hobbes and his sibling, Calvin, own hundreds of stuffed animal play toys. George said with a smile, "When we wash their toys we do a load a week."
During the day when the parents are at work, Calvin and Hobbes especially enjoy watching "Animal Planet," their favorite television network.
Through his interpreters, George and Claire Martynick, Hobbes admitted to liking cats and being a people dog rather than a dog-dog.
The 30-pound, 18-month old Hobbes was rescued from a shelter in New Jersey and presently resides in Phoenixville.
Clair and George said that Hobbes prefers table scraps to conventional dog food.
Previous entrants of the contest are encouraged to enter February's contest. A tough decision on the January selection was made by The Phoenix staff following much high-spirited debate.
