SPRING CITY - Area residents are invited to the Brown Street Park for entertainment, meeting neighbors and key community members for Spring City's National Night Out.
Spring City Lions Club is sponsoring the fifth annual event in town. Target is the national co-sponsor.
National Night Out, started by the National Association is an event that brings communities together and to raise awareness for crime and drug prevention.
'It is supposed to bring the community together to talk about public safety and promote better relationships with the police and fire departments,' said Spring City Lions Club President and Spring City Borough Councilman Jim Burns.
Attendees can meet representatives from the police and fire departments and West End EMS, Burns said.
McGruff, the crime fighting dog, and the Lions' Club Lion mascot will be also be interacting with residents.
The Masonic Lodge will be providing DNA kits for families and police officers will have a fingerprint station for children.
Attendees can try out the rock climb provided by the U.S. National Guard.
Burns said Lowe's of Pottstown conducted a birdhouse making activity last year and will be hosting an activity at this year's National Night Out.
The stores at Upland Square will be bringing Ghirardelli Chocolate and balloons.
Redner's in East Pikeland will be filling balloons for families, Burns said.
Residents can swim at the Spring City Pool for free from 5 p.m. to when the pool closes.
The Boy Scouts will be selling soda. Lions Club members will be selling food and Spring City coffee cups, mousepads and other items.
The sales of the food and Spring City items will help support the high school scholarship, Halloween parade and other club projects, Burns said.
Limerick Parks and Recreation and other organizations will have booths at the event.
