BOYERTOWN -- The Boyertown Grizzlies scored an unearned run in the bottom of the seventh inning to nip the Phoenixville Babe Ruth Phantoms, 2-1, in a Twin County League Junior American Legion baseball contest Wednesday night at the Boyertown West Middle School diamond.
Phoenixville scored its lone run in the top of the first inning as catcher Derek Ryan tripled and scored on Tom Romano's groundout.
The Grizzlies knotted the score with a run in the bottom of the third inning, and the score remained that way until the seventh inning.
Phoenixville's Dillon Fina pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed just one hit with 10 strikeouts and seven walks.
The Babe Ruth Phantoms (10-6) totaled five hits off Boyertown hurler Kevin Nicholas, and one of them was a Romano double. Nicholas fanned seven batters and issued two walks.
Phoenixville returns home for a game against Uwchlan tonight at 6 p.m. at deSanno Field.
