,PHOENIXVILLE -- Fans of diner food couldn't wait much longer as The Phoenix Diner opened its doors in the Acme Shopping Center, 785 Starr Street early Monday morning.

Co-owner Moe Sakr said that there were approximately 10-15 cars already in the parking lot by 5:30 a.m. Monday morning prior to their 6 a.m. opening.

"We had more people outside waiting than we anticipated," said Sakr. "They were here before our bread was delivered."

With the first round of customers coming in and out all morning for breakfast, Sakr said that business was steady all the way through until the afternoon.

"It's been very very good for us," he said. "Breakfast was wonderful and it's been steady all day.

"Everyone has mostly been ordering breakfast food. We've been serving it all morning and well into the afternoon. It seems like everyone enjoys eating breakfast all day long."

Sakr and his two cousins, Abraham Sakr and Ali Ghouneimy, are hoping that

their business will fill the void left open by the February closing of the Vale-Rio Diner. In fact, Ghouneimy worked at the Vale-Rio as a chef for 11 years.

With such a crowd first thing in the morning, Sakr said that his staff was well-prepared for the opening without any fear of running out of food.

"We are definitely well-stocked with food," he said. "We had a huge delivery on Saturday and we have another one coming in on Tuesday morning. We are more than ready to feed everyone."

Zachary Loe of Valley Forge said he wanted to visit the diner to try their hamburgers.

"I was driving into the area and thought I'd grab a burger," said Loe. "Sure, I could just go through a drive-thru and order one. I heard about the diner and wanted to give it a shot."

Loe seemed pleased at the size of the burger he ordered, along with the side order of french fries.

"Now this is a good burger," he said. "Glad I came here for one."

John and Uldene Duke of Phoenixville were on their way home from Phoenixville Hospital when they decided to get some supper.

"We were just at the hospital, and I told her that we should check out the new place," said John. "It looks very nice in here and they've done a good job."

John Duke said that he and his wife used to frequent the Vale-Rio Diner, and are glad to see another diner in the area.

The couple was rather impressed when their orders of a club sandwich and chicken croquettes were served.

"All of the food looks really good," said John. "We've been watching what the other people have been ordering. We're going to eat now."

Sakr said his staff has heard nothing but praise from the customers.

"Everyone has been saying the food is really good," he said. "They are glad we are open and the early morning people said they've been looking for another place to go."

The Phoenix Diner is located at 785 Starr Street inside the Acme Shopping Center. Their phone number is 610-935-3566. Hours of operation will be 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday; and 24 hours on Friday and Saturday.
