SPRING CITY - The Community Association of Spring City, which plans to open their community pool Memorial Day, seeks applications for members and lifeguards.

Applications for membership are available at Jean's Cleaners, 2 South Main Street in Spring City.

"(The pool) is open to anyone," said Sue Grumblatt, member of the community association. "We don't turn anyone away." Membership applications include basic information and a fee.

Spring City pool is also seeking experienced life guards as well as those willing to become certified.

Lifeguard training and certification, consisting of a four-day class with the Red Cross, will be held at the pool on May 8 and 9, 15 and 16. Scholarship applications are also available for lifeguard classes; applicants must be at least 15 years old.

The course, which costs $230, will grant the participant a certification that lasts three years.

The community pool will have daily activities Monday through Friday for members. Organized games of volleyball, pool games and arts and crafts will be held regularly.

"It's something for kids in the community to do to keep busy at the pool," said Grumblatt.

The pool will open for residents beginning May 31, Memorial Day.

Located at Brown and Wall Streets, the Spring City pool was the result of the community association's work. Formed with the specific purpose of operating the pool, the community association's first month's lease was paid by a donation from the International Order of the Oddfellows' local chapter.

The SCPA is nonprofit group of volunteers that organized after the pool was closed by borough council due to lack of membership. Borough officials and the community then cooperated to transfer the pool's lease over to the newly formed community association. Borough council accepted the lease proposal at the April 5 meeting.

For information and applications visit Jean's Cleaners in Spring City or contact Sue Grumblatt at 610-948-0936. Scholarship applications can be sent to the Community Association of Spring City at PO Box 277.
