EAST CALN -- Organizers of the annual Chester County Camp Cadet Golf Classic are looking for golfers and event sponsors.
The golf event, which will be held Oct. 13, is intended to raise money for the county's Camp Cadet program organized by the Pennsylvania State Police.
While the event isn't until the fall, Avondale Trooper Corey Monthei said golfers can sign up now. And, local businesses can start signing up as sponsors, he said.
Golfers can sign up as teams of four, or individual golfers can be placed with other teams, Mothei said. The golf event will be held here at the Downingtown Country Club.
The cost is $150 per person. Non-golfers can pay $60 to attend the dinner. Event sponsorship levels range between $150 and $2,500. The daylong event will include a silent auction, golf clinic, contests and live music.
Money raised will support the Camp Cadet program -- a week long overnight summer camp for children between 11 and 13.
"The goal is to bridge the gap between young people and the law enforcement community," Monthei said. "The goal is to show we are dedicated officers serving in the community, not to be feared in any way."
The camp, Monthei said, focuses on self-discipline, self-confidence and conflict resolution. The camp is modeled after the State Police Academy, he said.
In August, roughly 115 Chester County children will be attending the free camp at Camp Sankanac near Phoenixville. State troopers and local police officers are the camp's counselors.
