On Tuesday, Aug. 5, neighborhoods throughout Spring City and Royersford are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 25th annual National Night Out (NNO).

NNO, a production by the National Association of Town Watch, is nationally sponsored by Target and organized locally by the Spring City Lions Club with the Community Association of Spring City.

The event is intended to focus on issues that concern safety, fostering police-community partnerships, focusing on crime, drug and violence prevention and developing neighborhood unity.

On July 7, the Spring City Borough Council issued a proclamation declaring Tuesday, Aug. 5, National Night Out in Spring City, at the same time recognizing the Lions Club as the local organizer of the event.

Participants are encouraged to "light up the night" by turning on their porch and outside lights and walking to the event as a deterrent to crime and drug activity. This year, Spring City will be joining over 11,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 35 million people are expected to participate in the one-night event. NNO is being supported in part by Target, the national corporate sponsor.

Local participating organizations include and are not limited to: Spring City Borough Police, Liberty Fire Company, Spring City Masonic Lodge, Chester County Council on Addictive Diseases (COAD) Group. MADD of Delaware and Chester Counties, West End Ambulance, Spring City Recruiting Depot and many more.

The activities include finger printing with DNA/child identification kits provided for free; a wall climb, military and emergency vehicle displays, K-9 demonstrations, as well as musical entertainment by the ever popular Rockin' Rotarians and Magical Sight and Sound. Food and refreshments will be available.

The activities will be conducted at the Brown Street park area off Wall Street in Spring City borough from 5 to 9 p.m. Additional, up-to-date information is available at the Lions Club Web site at www.springcitypa.net/lions.
