WHITEMARSH >> With Christmas wishes of sugar plums, rawhide treats and forever homes, the dogs currently in residence at the Montgomery County SPCA cozied up to the annual Holiday Dinner on Wednesday morning in Whitemarsh.
With a 10 a.m. feeding, the meal must have felt more like brunch than dinner to Queenie, a 5-year-old spayed female mastiff; Buddy, a 3-year-old Staffordshire/Rottweiler mastiff mix; Bentley, a 9-year-old neutered male Chihuahua and Tonks, a 9-year-old spayed female collie mix.
All of the pooches are eligible for adoption to brighten anyone’s home for the holidays and all year round.
For more than 50 years, members of the SPCA’s board of directors have overseen the event that provides a special treat for all the animals that have found themselves at the Montgomery County SPCA shelters during the holiday season.
Longtime chef to the critters Cricket Roberts was behind the stove again on Wednesday at the Conshohocken shelter, stirring up the festive mixture of ground meat and veggies in a savory broth.
The food will also be distributed at the SPCA shelters in Perkiomenville and Abington.
The Montgomery County SPCA, 19 E. Ridge Pike, Conshohocken, is open for adoptions Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday, 12 to 3 p.m.
Contributions from all animal lovers are always welcome and may be sent to: The Montgomery County SPCA, 19 E. Ridge Pike, Box 222, Conshohocken, PA 19428-0222.
