Following a sabbatical since 1985, the Dogwood Ball will attract a whole new generation of Dogwood Queens with members of their courts. Held the weekend before the Dogwood Festival begins, it acts as a bridge between the Dogwood Pageant in April and the festivities that will follow, culminating in the Dogwood Parade on May 15.

The pageant's first queen, Patricia (Giampetro) Hritz, will attend the May 8 event along with several former contestants and queens.

The Phoenixville Country Club plays host to this year's ball, a semi-formal event to honor the 2004 Dogwood Queen and the ladies of the Dogwood Pageant Court. The public is invited and the doors open at 6 p.m. for cocktail hour to be followed by dinner and dancing.

Expected to attend are community leaders, past Jaycee presidents and friends and family of the pageant contestants.

The theme of this year's event will be: "A Place in Time."

The menu includes a fresh fruit cup, garden salad, rolls, coffee/tea, ice cream or sherbet as well as all of the following: carved prime rib, chicken breast with white cream sauce, broiled salmon, penne pasta, red bliss potato and vegetable medley.

There will be dancing until 11 p.m. with music provided by The Moonlight DJ's.

The Phoenixville Jaycees and organizer Donna Viscuso have revived the Dogwood Ball, which was an event cherished by the late Angie Jaworski. Organizers say they are bringing the Dogwood Ball back to honor her memory, her dedication to the Dogwood festivities and to her community.

The cost per person is $35 and tickets are on sale in Phoenixville at the following locations:

Jaworski's Music Center, 175 Bridge St.

Ultimate Hair Salon, 365 Nutt Road

Foresta's Market, 1098 West Bridge St.

The Gateway Pharmacy, 165 Nutt Road

Those who live out of town can get further information on obtaining tickets by calling Donna at 610-948-7066 or Pat at 610-367-7649.
