The Hill School has local basketball talent

POTTSTOWN - The Hill School, a private school in Pottstown, features a number of area players on both the menís and womenís basketball teams.

The Blues men, coached for the 13th year by Seth Eilberg, have junior guard Sam Norton from Collegeville as well as senior forward Phil Bolinger from Elverson. Seth Stankiewicz from Reading is a sophomore guard.

Norton, a 6-1, 160-pounder, is a starting guard. Bolinger is a 6-5, 225-pounder, Stankiewicz is a 6-1, 155-pounder.

Eilbergís assistant coaches are Pete Horn, Phil Canosa, Pat Hagarman and Casey Oliver.

On Jan. 19, John Carroll had a dominating performance for The Hill School with 27 points as the Blues held off Kiski, 56-52, in a non-league contest. Carroll scored 16 points as Hill opend a 28-18 lead at halftime. Norton added 13 points for the Blues.

The Hill School raised its record to 11-2 overall (2-1 league) with the victory. The Hill School competes in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League.

Carroll is a 6-8, 210-pound senior forward from Dublin, Ireland. He is averaging 17.8 points per game to rank second in the Pottstown area. Through 11 games, Carroll had 74 field goals and shot 42-for-55 at the free throw line for 196 total points.

James Fives, a 6-6, 195-pound junior guard/forward, is averaging 12.5 points per game.

On Jan. 18, Carroll scored a game-high 21 points as the Blues defeated Peddie School from Heightstown, N.J., 73-63. Carroll scored 12 of his counters during the second half after Hill took a 36-28 halftime lead.

Fives and sophomore guard Bryce Allen also reached double figures with 18 and 10 points, respectively.

On the womenís side, The Hill School fell to Peddie School, 53-27, on Jan. 18 in the first game of an evening doubleheader. The Bluesí record dropped to 4-10 with a young team.

Grey Simpson is in his seventh year as head coach of the Blues with Sue Repko, Jessica Reid, Brianna Robinson and Randy Doaty serving as assistant coaches.

The Hill School had five juniors in the starting lineup against Peddie. One was 5-4 guard Chyanna Antonio from Pottstown and another was Kennedy Gallagher, a 5-9 junior forward from Phoenixville. Jonica Brown, a 5-7 junior guard from Mohnton, was a third starter.

Jasmine Nyce, a 5-7 sophomore point guard, is from Telford. Other local players include Kathryn Dunn, a 5-5 freshman guard from Phoenixvile; Ashley Gilmore, a 5-7 sophomore guard from Collegeville; Julia Hernan, a 5-7 junior guard from Royersford; and Brielle Smith, a 5-9 junior forward from Royersford. Anna Sottosanti is a 5-7 junior forward from Reading.

Against Peddie, Nyce was Hillís top scorer with six points while Hernan and Jackie Anyanwu, a 6-2 junior center, each added five.

Thus far this winter, junior Rachel Salter, a 5-10 guard, is leading the Blues in scoring at 7.7 points per outing. She is the teamís lone returning starter from a year ago. Nyce is averaging at a 7.4 scoring clip per game.
