The University of Connecticut defeated Duke, 2-0, to capture the NCAA Division I field hockey national championship on Nov. 24 at Old DominionUniversity in Norfolk, Va.
The Huskies feature two Phoenixville residents in sisters Marie Elena Bolles and Olivia Bolles, who both starred at Villa Maria Academy in Malvern.
Connecticut (20-4) won on a pair of first-half goals by Mckenzie Townsend and Chloe Hunnable.
The Bolles sisters played all 70 minutes of the contest.
Marie Elena was named to the All-Tournament team.
Methacton graduates Emily Walsh, a sophomore defender, and Asia Crawford, a freshman midfielder, are also on the Huskies’ roster.
Paula Heimbach (Upper Perkiomen) and Heather Morris (Owen J. Roberts) each took a shot for Duke.
