The paddle took participants from the boat launch at Lock 60 down the Schuylkill River and back by way of the canal.

Among the largest donations received at the event was $500 from state Rep.

That effort isn't just carried out through the theme for the Sept. 27 event - "Sex, Drugs and Rock & Roll" - but also through its format.

Speakers at TEDx Phoenixville are held to 18 minutes or less of speaking time, and organizers often push them to shorten their talks.

<![CDATA[Detwiler Family celebrates 118 years of history at reunion]]> Detwiler Family members met together at Camp Innabah in Pughtown, Pa., to celebrate their 118th family reunion on a beautiful summer day on Aug. 16.

"Family Homesteads" was the theme for the day. An artist's sketch of a family homestead, and a large milk can with the Rapp Family Homestead photo painted on it, was brought for display by Mary Ann Springer.

<![CDATA[Royersford man turns 100 with grand celebration]]> Royersford resident Jack Fries, a regular at the Spring-Ford Diner, celebrated his 100th birthday in grand fashion Friday morning.

Fries was driven to the diner from his apartment in the Royersford fire truck used in the film, "The Blob." At the diner, he was greeted by dozens of friends and well-wishers who sang him "Happy Birthday" and presented with a cake and $100 bill with his face on it.

<![CDATA[Citizen scientists wanted for Summer of Bugs event at Valley Forge park]]> VALLEY FORGE - Valley Forge National Historical Park and the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University are partnering in the Summer of Bugs, a summerlong inventory of the park's terrestrial invertebrates, better known as land bugs.

Together, the park and the Academy invite those interested in learning about and contributing to the research to act as "citizen scientists" by observing and participating in a 24-hour BugBlitz on August 23-24.

ROYERSFORD - Thunder Outreach is hosting a benefit concert for Kyra Tramontana, the 19-year-old victim of a work accident that left second- and third-degree burns over 35 percent of her body.

Tramontana is a Spring-Ford High School graduate who was working at Dickey's Barbecue Pit in the Park Towne Plaza shopping center off North Lewis Road May 5 when oil in the fryer spilled onto her.
