PHOENIXVILLE - Local artist Henrik Stubbe Teglbjaerg may be best known as the organizer of the annual Firebird Festival, but his art extends to many different places.

Among his works are a wooden sculpture honoring Native American culture at Marsh Creek State Park and an arch made of reclaimed driftwood that stood at the entrance to the Schuylkill River Trail behind Phoenixville's borough hall.

Together, the park and the Academy invite those interested in learning about and contributing to the research to act as "citizen scientists" by observing and participating in a 24-hour BugBlitz on August 23-24.

LIMERICK - Spring-Ford Area School Board discussed the per capita tax at a workshop meeting Monday night before a surprise motion to eliminate it was voted down.

Board Vice President Tom DiBello made the motion to eliminate the tax on the argument that it uses too much of the district staff's time to collect and process.

<![CDATA[Montco to spray for adult mosquitoes in Collegeville, Upper Providence]]> The Montgomery County Health Department will spray for mosquitoes in Upper Providence and Collegeville Thursday, Aug. 28, weather permitting, from approximately 8 to 11 p.m. The date for spraying in case of inclement weather is Thursday, Sept. 4.

"The spraying will be done where sampling by the Health Department and PADEP has shown mosquitoes that carry the West Nile virus," according to a press release from the county.

ROYERSFORD - Police arrested a man who allegedly struggled and attempted to run from police after an officer tried to arrest him for having marijuana.

Officer Caleb Smith of the Royersford Police was patrolling Victory Park on the 200 block of Second Avenue Aug. 6 when he saw a man later identified as Michael Hobbs, 23, walking on the path in the park near the pavilion.

Some Pottstown Memorial Medical Center and Phoenixville Hospital patients are among the estimated 4.5 million caught in a cyberattack announced by Community Health Systems Inc., the parent company of the hospitals.

The two area hospitals would not say Tuesday how many local patients have been affected by the data breach.

PHOENIXVILLE - Addressing security concerns of borough police, council voted last week to put together a request for proposal for a fence around the back of the Phoenixville police station and district court office.

Chief Bill Mossman said the back area of the police station is too open and provides safety issues for officers, prisoners being escorted from the court and members of the public.
