PHOENIXVILLE - Three age group team champions were crowned in Phoenixville Area Positive Alternatives (PAPA)/Board of Recreation (PBRD) basketball action for boys and girls on Aug. 17 at Reservoir Park.

In the 10 & Under Division, Bethel Baptist Church defeated Phoenixville Police Association, 29-21.

PHILADELPHIA - The Northeast Irish Rugby Club hosted its inaugural 10-year-olds' tournament on Aug. 9. Men's and women's clubs from across the region played in an all-day tournament in a round-robin style.

Local players included Alana Sullivan, Limerick; Shannon McLaughlin, Royersford; Devon Tucker, Limerick; Jessica Nedwecky, Royersford; Stephanie Pilman, Collegeville; and Natalie Hinostroza, Limerick.

Some Pottstown Memorial Medical Center and Phoenixville Hospital patients are among the estimated 4.5 million caught in a cyberattack announced by Community Health Systems Inc., the parent company of the hospitals.

The two area hospitals would not say Tuesday how many local patients have been affected by the data breach.

PHOENIXVILLE - Addressing security concerns of borough police, council voted last week to put together a request for proposal for a fence around the back of the Phoenixville police station and district court office.

Chief Bill Mossman said the back area of the police station is too open and provides safety issues for officers, prisoners being escorted from the court and members of the public.

PHOENIXVILLE - With his contract set to expire next summer, the Phoenixville Area School Board announced that it has begun negotiating a new contract with Superintendent Alan Fegley.

PHOENIXVILLE - Since bids received were unsatisfactory to borough administration, road paving which was hoped to be completed before the 2014-15 school year began will have to be pushed back.
