It’s easy to be cynical about politics. As a recent Conestoga graduate and current University of Pennsylvania student, I’ve noticed that the prevailing political opinion among my generation is one marked with pessimism and resignation. The narrative goes something like this: self-interested politicians, bought and sold by lobbyists, perpetuate a rigged system in which special interests always win.
Last year, for my senior internship, I worked in State Rep. Warren Kampf’s office. I had only known Mr. Kampf in passing — he had knocked on my door last election, I’d seen his ads and gotten his newsletter — so I was not sure what to expect. In the course of the internship, I was able to talk with Warren about the issues, sit in on his meetings, attend a committee hearing, go to the General Assembly, and see how Warren operates on a day-to-day basis.
From this experience, I can confidently say that my generation is wrong about politics. While there are certainly some bad apples in Harrisburg, Warren Kampf is a reminder that there are honest politicians. Warren is genuine, hard-working, dedicated, passionate and open-minded. He is willing to work with anyone — Republican, Democrat or Independent — on any issue. While his schedule is always overbooked, he makes time to meet with constituents to discuss whatever is on their mind. He has a real drive within him to push for innovative policies that benefit future generations — my generation.
Because of this, I am writing to endorse Warren Kampf for State Representative of the 157th District. I know Warren will continue to push for a vibrant economy, a strong education system, a sustainable state budget and a reformed state government. But most of all, I know he will continue to be a genuine and committed representative of the people of the 157th District.
