The Relay for Life is returning to Phoenixville Area High School on May 12 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. The theme for this year’s Relay, which benefits the American Cancer Society, is “We Can Be Heroes,” reflecting the heroic efforts of those who struggle with cancer, and their caretakers.
This year’s Relay will feature fun for the entire family, including games and activities for kids. Musicians and bands, including Bryen O’Boyle and Harry Giovan of Mr. Greengenes will entertain throughout the day. Other acts performing on the main stage include AM Radio, Haywood Trout, Waning Crescent and a Kinks cover band.
There is still time to participate in this year’s Relay for Life, which has been happening in Phoenixville since 2004. Check out the Relay page at http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR?pg=entry&fr_id=86334 to learn more, and to join or start a team. You can also see the complete schedule for Relay day and order luminaria through the website.

The Phoenixville Relay team has several events planned leading up to the May 12 event. These include:
• The Relay Hero Gala will happen on April 25. All survivors and one caregiver per survivor are welcome to enjoy dinner free of charge in the Covered Bridge Room at the Kimberton Fire Company. To attend, RSVP to Tracey McCowen at 610-983-1823. The dinner is sponsored by the Phoenixville Hospital Cancer Center. This year, the center will recognize two patients who have persevered despite many obstacles while being treated. In addition, two caregivers will be recognized. Nominations for these awards can be emailed to Althea Leacock at AltheaAllison.Leacock@towerhealth.org.
• A fundraiser at Petrucci’s on May 2 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a portion of all proceeds benefiting Relay. Luminaria bags that will be lit during a nighttime ceremony at the Relay will be sold during this benefit.
Information on all Relay-related activities can be found at the Relay website or on the Relay Facebook page. You can also learn more at the next Relay for Life meeting, happening May 1 at 6:15 p.m. in the cafeteria at the Phoenixville Area Middle School.
