UPPER PROVIDENCE >> Upper Providence Township Police Department has been officially recognized as an accredited police department.

The Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission held its quarterly meeting last month with 15 commission members and four police departments present. The on-site lead assessor gave a complimentary oral report of the three assessors’ findings. The commission unanimously voted to grant Upper Providence Police Department Accreditation status.

“It has been the core goal of the Township to provide Upper Providence Residents with the best and highest quality of police services. This process would not come to fruition without the determination of the Board of Supervisors and the hard work and dedication of Chief Mark Toomey, Lieutenant Mark Freeman and Assistant Accreditation Manager, Eric Schmitz,” read a release from Upper Providence Township.

A plaque, which was presented to the department, now hangs in the police station.
