PHOENIXVILLE >> The man police believe is responsible for several area robberies is now in police custody.

Peter Harkins III, 40, of Phoenixville, turned himself in Monday to the Philadelphia Police Department at around 2 a.m., according to a post by Phoenixville Police. He was then turned over to the Bensalem Township Police Department on a warrant for a bank robbery.

Harkins was identified as a suspect by Phoenixville Police after officers responded to a robbery that occurred at Pizza Hut on Nutt Road on Oct. 29. The suspect had entered the business with his right hand inside of a black knit hat and implied he had a weapon. He then ordered the clerk to open the cash register and grabbed money from the register. He was last seen in the area of Lincoln Avenue and Milligan Street, police said.

Following the incident, police released a photo of the suspect, and community tips helped police identify the suspect as Harkins.

After turning himself in Monday, Harkins was then transferred to Bucks County Prison in Doylestown after failing to post $1 million bail, police said. He is charged with robbery, possession of an instrument of crime with intent and theft. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Michael W. Gallagher on Nov. 21.
