The Pottstown PAL Spartans were named co-champions of the ECTB Championships on July 13 in Allentown.
The final game against Mercer County Bulldogs was suspended due to rain, resulting in a split title.
The Spartans finished 3-0 earlier in the day to play its way into the final. Pottstown defeated BPE Titans, 7-6; topped No. 1 seed New Jersey Jays, 6-1; and downed Harford sox (Md.), 5-4.
Against the Titans, Josh Pedorenko went the route and Bryan Delp had four hits. Sam Widenhofer had two hits, including the walk-off, run-scoring single.
Against New Jersey, Jake Gery threw an excellent complete game. Kolten Von Kiel, Gery and Delp each had two hits.
In the win over Harford, Pottstown scored four runs in the seventh. Von Kiel doubled and drove in two runs, including the decisive run. Joe Pedorenko had three hits and two RBIs.
Pottstown PAL 9, Liberty 1: Jake Gery finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs while Sachael Sciarretta was 2-for-4 in leading the Spartans in a City/County League victory.
Bobby Girard pitched five innings for the win, giving up four hits with three strikeouts for Pottstown (12-1, 23-10).
Pottstown PAL 4, Exeter 1: The Spartans continued their strong play with a victory over the Cardinals on July 8.
Nick Thomas drove in two runs for Pottstown while Jake Gery went 2-for-3 and scored twice. Brian Delp gained the pitching win, yielding just one hit and walking one with seven strikeouts in four innings of work.
Warrington 3, Pottstown 2: Although they collected nine hits, the Steelers found themselves opening the Bux-Mont League playoffs ont he short end of the score against the A’s on July 10.
Seventh-seeded Pottstown got 3-for-3 batting from J.T. Mullen and Jimmy Mullen, but it musteered oly single runs int he third and fifth innings. Warrington took a two-run lead in its first at-bat, then added the game-winner in the sixth to qualify for the July 11 winners’ bracket game against Pennridge.
J.T. Mullen absorbed the pitching loss despite a complete-game perforamnce that included five strikeouts.
Phoenixville 8, Pottstown 5: Pottstown did not fare any better in the completion of a game suspended due to rain last week on July 9.
Phoenixville was leading the game 3-2 when it was halted after one inning. The Phantoms returned for the completion and piled on a few more runs to win the contest.
David Bolles was the winning pitcher for Phoenixville. For the Baby Steelers, Shawn Sutterby had one hit and two RBIs while Matt D’Augustino also had one hit and one RBI.
