Athletics nudge Paoli, 2-1, in CCL

PHOENIXVILLE - Phoenixville squeezed out a run in the bottom of the sixth inning to nip Paoli, 2-1, in Chester County League Senior American Legion baseball action at deSanno Field on June 23.

Jordan Valenteen pitched a complete game three-hitter and gave up just one unearned run to record the mound victory for Phoenixville (4-4). Valenteen struck out four and wlaked four. Paoli scored its run in the top of the sixth to tie the game at one.

As catcher Chris Demey slugged a solo home run over the center field fence to lead of the second inning to give the hosts a 1-0 lead.

The homer was one of just four Phoenixville hits off Paoli pitcher Tim Gillan, who also hurled a strong game. Gillan went six innings, giving up two earned runs with five strikeouts and three walks.

Brett Arney began the Phoenixville sixth with a walk on a full count and promptly stole second base for his second steal of the night. Valenteen also walked. Cole Luzins bunted down the third base line for a hit to load the bases, and Arney scored the go-ahead run on a throwing error on the play.

Valenteen had two singles for the As. Paoli (1-9-2) got hits from Steven Nagy, Danny Pettine and Dylan Spiker.
