VFCC Men's Basketball League starts season

The 2014 Valley Forge Menís Summer Basketball League got off to a great start with games on June 10 and June 12. The league, which is hosted by Valley Forge Christian College, runs through the end of July.

Tuesday, June 10

The opening game pitted Citadel against Bella Napoli, which won the contest, 61-56. The scoring differential remained int he single digits throughout the game. Citadel held a slim two-point lead at the half, but it was Bella Napoli which recovered to secure the victory. Bella Naspoliís top scorers included Cornell Merricks (16), Jon Crabtree (12) and Jon Hogga (11). Latrell Alford ws the top scorer for Citadel with 17 points. Citadel also got double digits from Kevin Macdk (12) and James Fulton (11).

Dave Hoffmanís cruised to a 71-40 victory over Crown Trophy. Albert Merdoro and Matt Ashcroft poured in 22 and 21 points, resepctively, for the victors. Justin Jaworski added 14 points. Tai Crutchfield was the high scorer for Crown Trophy with 18 points.

Sly Fox defeated Integrated Promotions, 83-64. Will Furey paced Sly Fox with 21 points. Teammates Andrew Powers and Matt Crider added 15 and 14, respectively. Dan Joyce led Integrated Promotions with 17 points. Teammate Matt McSurdy also reached double figures with 14 points.


Thursday, June 12

Sherwin-Williams edged Phoenixville Federal, 73-70.

Despite trailing by four points at halftime, 38-34, Sherwin-Williams rebounded to post the victory. Four Sherwin-Williams players reached double digits: Ryan McKee (18), Ryan Herber (12), Mike Handley (11) and Matt Forrest (11). Matt King (23) and Ross Reber (14) were high men for Phoenixville Federal.

Citadel downed Dave Hoffmanís, 69-54. Jean LeBlance fired home 24 points to lead Citadel to victory. Latrell Alford added 13 points to the cause. Three Dave Hoffman players hit double figures: Albert Mercado (19), Britt Moore (16) and Matt Ashcroft (14).

Crown Trophy topped Bella Napoli, 77-72.

Tai Crutchfield finished with a season-high 32 points while Omar Ford-Bey added 17 for Crown Trophy. Jon Hogga (17), Chris Talley (14) and Matt Kurtz (14) were high men for Bella Napoli.
