(Updated 9:45 a.m.) LIMERICK — A woman remains hospitalized after her car was rear-ended by a truck which then crashed into the former Dutch Oven Bakery off of West Ridge Pike Sunday afternoon.
Jennie Fritz, 45, of Limerick, was airlifted to Hahnemann Hospital for the injuries she received in the crash around 2 p.m.
As of Monday afternoon, she was still in the hospital but officials there refused to comment on her condition.
An investigation by Limerick Police and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s detectives reportedly determined that a GMC truck following Fritz’ Hyundai Accent “struck the rear” of her car as she “was preparing to negotiate a left-hand turn onto Royersford Road.”
“The truck then continued on and crashed into the front of the Dutch Oven Bakery before coming to a rest,” the release continued.
Police did not release the identity of the truck driver Monday.
A witness, Bryan Roy, posted an image to Twitter which appeared to show the white truck well into the bakery building, roughly as deep as the bed of its driver’s side. Additionally, a second person posted a photo of what is believed to be Fritz’s silver car, which shows it across the road with almost all of its back end shorn off.
Fritz was the only occupant of her Hyundai, police said.
The driver and only occupant of the truck, declined medical attention, according to the police release.
It’s unclear exactly what caused the truck to allegedly smash into Fritz’s car and then the building.
“The incident remains under active investigation by the Limerick Township Police Department and the Montgomery County Detective Bureau,” the release said.
