UPPER PROVIDENCE A standoff with a despondent man ended peacefully Sunday afternoon after more than two hours of negotiations, according to township police.

The resident in the 300 block of Linfield-Trappe Road was reportedly in a poor frame of mind, and police were concerned because there were guns in the residence. They responded around 2 p.m. along with the Ches-Mont Emergency Response Team. Township Line Road was closed at Linfield-Trappe Road as police communicated with the subject and encouraged him to come out of the home.

The man, who police declined to identify, eventually came out of the home and received medical assistance around 4:30 p.m., police said.

In addition to the Ches-Mont Emergency Response Team, Upper Providence police were assisted at the scene by Lower Providence, Collegeville and Royersford police as well as Trappe Ambulance.
