Community helping family displaced by fire in Perkiomen Twp.

PERKIOMEN TWP. — The Perkiomen Township Fire Company is collecting items to help out a family displaced by a fire over the weekend.

According to Fire Chief John Moran Jr., the fire started in the kitchen of the single-family home in the unit block of Rahns Road, near Betcher Road, around 5 p.m. Saturday, March 22. It took his company two hours to extinguish the blaze which severely damaged the kitchen, he said. The rest of the home sustained smoke and water damage, Moran said.

The family of nine, some of whom were away at college, was renting the home, Moran said. Seven people were in the home at the time but were not injured in the fire; however, a dog perished, Moran said. The American Red Cross was providing assistance to the family in the form of a hotel, food and clothing, but the community is also helping out by collecting clothing and gift cards.

The Perkiomen Township Fire Company requested the following to help out the family:

Women’s size 16 pants, XL shirts, and size 10 shoes

Women’s size 3 pants, small shirts, and size 9.5 shoes
