NORRISTOWN — After a nearly two-hour recess from Thursday morning’s meeting, the Montgomery County commissioners announced they closed the sale of the Parkhouse geriatric facility with Mid-Atlantic Healthcare LLC for $41 million.

“The closing of this deal today further demonstrates our collective commitment to running Montgomery County in the most effective and efficient manner while focusing on the core functions of county government and keeping faith with our values of looking out for those in need in our community, the best interests of the taxpayers and protecting the natural resources of our county,” commissioners’ Chairman Josh Shapiro said after the closing.

The commissioners also approved a resolution that keeps the 70 acres of land across the street from the geriatric facility as permanent open space that cannot be built upon.

The commissioners also announced the land on the same side as the facility will be preserved for the next five years and residents will be able to continue to use it for running, hiking and horseback riding. After the five years, Mid-Atlantic will have to get approval from Upper Providence Township before developing the land.
