Icy road causes crash at end of East Pikeland DUI police chase

EAST PIKELAND — A 24-year-old man believed to be driving under the influence of either drugs or alcohol allegedly led police on a chase before rolling his truck on Route 23 early Saturday.

Jeffer Meta, of South Coventry,was allegedly seen by East Pikeland Police speeding and driving “in an erratic manner” westbound on Route 23 around 2:30 a.m., a police release said.

An unidentified passenger was with Meta, according to police.

Meta’s white pickup truck was driving on roads police described as “icy.”


Initially, police turned on their lights and siren but Meta allegedly did not stop, so police gave chase.

Because of the ice on the road, police decided to stop chasing Meta but still contiued west on Route 23, the release said.

“(They) came across the vehicle turned over and the operator and passenger getting out of the vehicle that was on its side,” the release continued. “No one was injured in the accident that was investigated by tje East Vincent Police.”

Meta was charged with fleeing and eluding police as well as DUI, police said, and arraigned and released when he posted 10 percent of $25,000 bail.
