Linfield Fire Company extinguishes car fire

LIMERICK — A car fire on Longview Road drew out the Linfield Fire Company Sunday afternoon.

Fire crews and the Limerick Police responded to the report of a car fire in the westbound lanes of Longview Road on its 100 block near the curve away from from the power plant.

Limerick Police Chief Bill Albany said the car was a 2001 Saturn driven by a 56-year-old Pottstown man who had been having engine trouble “for the past few days.”

Some time in the late afternoon, smoke became visible in the engine compartment. The driver stopped the car and got his elderly mother, the only passenger, out. The driver then saw “flmes under the hood,” according to Alban.

Linfield Fire Company responded and put out the fire but much of the front end was left charred or melted, according to the unit’s Facebook page.
