Washington Memorial National Carillon at Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge will present the 2014 Frank P. Law Summer Carillon Concert Series.
Concerts are held every Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. throughout the summer.
The series starts on July 2 with returning favorite Steven Ball, Freelance Carillonneur from Atlantic City, New Jersey. Chapel Carillonneur Doug Gefvert performs on July 9. On July 16 we welcome Tim Sleep, City Carillonneur at the Millennium Carillon, Naperville, Illinois, for his first concert at Valley Forge.
Two more returning favorites finish out July: James Fackenthal, Assistant University Carillonneur at the University of Chicago, Illinois (July 23), and Ray McLellan, University Carillonneur at Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan (July 30).
Another newcomer to Valley Forge performs on Aug. 6: Klaas de Haan, Carillonneur at Laren, Bolsward and Heerenveen, The Netherlands. The ever popular Irish Thunder Pipes & Drums returns on Aug. 13 (Music of the British Isles). On Aug. 20 we welcome back John Widmann, City Carillonneur of The City of Frederick, Maryland. Our series concludes on Aug. 27 with James Brinson, Carillonneur at Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg, Pennsylvania, performing at Valley Forge for the first time.
As always, all concerts are free and open to the public. These are hour-long outdoor concerts, so bring a blanket, lawn chair, snacks or dinner. The Chapel Cabin Shop will be open for refreshments and souvenirs. Visit the Chapel Used Book Store for great bargains. All Concerts Played Rain or Shine.
