The Colonial Theater will be showing the movie “A Fierce Green Fire: The Battle for a Living Planet” next weekend in honor of Earth Day, which is this Tuesday.

The movie, which will show April 27 at 4:30 p.m., is sponsored by CEC Associates, Inc., a local disability management company in Valley Forge whose employees are concerned about the environment. Esther Weiss, Vice President of CEC Associates, explains that Dr. Jasen Walker, President of the company and a strong environmental advocate, had the idea to sponsor the movie because he loves movies and believes they can influence the opinions and actions of the audience.

This is the second movie showing at the Colonial Theater that they have sponsored.

According to Weiss, the 101-minute film is an exploration of the environmental movement: grassroots and global activism spanning 50 years from conservation to climate change. Famous actors such as Robert Redford and Meryl Streep are narrators in the film. It is a critically acclaimed movie and Weiss explains that CEC Associates, Inc. wanted to create more awareness about the development of the environmental movement.

“We are trying to make this an annual event,” said Weiss. “This year we also invited Senator Andrew Dinniman to introduce the film, as he has ben a supporter of environmental programs.”

“We love supporting our local community,” she added. “In addition, the Colonial has been extremely helpful and cooperative.”

Weiss hopes that the audience will gain an increased awareness about environmental issues from the film that will lead to a greater focus of ways to protect the planet.

Mary Foote, executive director of the Colonial Theater, agreed to the partnership with CEC Associates and to show the film because she also thought it would be a good movie to show their audiences to create awareness of what is happening with the planet.

Last year, the theater showed the movie Chasing Ice, and many people attended.

Although she has not seen the movie yet, Foote is excited to watch it when it is played at the theater. She trusts that CEC Associates have chosen a meaningful movie with a message emphasizing the importance of taking care of the environment.

“We all need to be thinking about the environment, and we should be talking about it,” she said.

Foote hopes that there will be a big attendance, as there was last year.
