Devon Preparatory School will present Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma! at 7 p.m. on March 27, 28 and 29 at the Devon Prep Auditorium, 363 N. Valley Forge Road, Devon, Pa.

Oklahoma! was the first musical on which Rodgers and Hammerstein collaborated, and is considered the first in American musical theater history to fuse the story-telling elements of libretto, song and dance.

Set in the Oklahoma territory just before its 1907 rise to statehood, Oklahoma! places the romance of brash cowboy Curly and feisty farmer’s daughter Laurey against rising conflict between ranchers and the farmers who tried to fence the range. The rich score features such Broadway favorites as “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning,” “People Will Say We’re in Love,” “Many a New Day,” “All ‘er Nothin’,” and “Oklahoma!”

Devon Prep’s cast includes 45 student performers, with all male parts played by Devon Prep students and girls from a total of thirteen other schools in the female roles. Area students in the cast include Matt Fasullo and Matt Kozak, both of Phoenixville, Paul Malikkal of Collegeville in the role of Joe, Tommy Gies of Spring City as rancher Ike Skidmore, and Regina Luminis Academy student MaryRita Gies of Spring City as Vivian.

The production’s music is directed by Dr. Valentin Radu, Devon Prep’s Director of Music. Paul Recupero of Wayne is the stage director and Gail Oldfield of Kimberton the choreographer. Tickets are available at the door or online at
