Man who alleged robbed East Pikeland bank in custody

East Pikeland police have announced that the man who allegedly robbed the First CornerStone Bank located at 368 Schuylkill Road East Pikeland Township on Thursday June 18 has been taken into police custody in Maryland. Image provided.

The East Pikeland Police Department released information today detailing an arrest made in connection with the recent robbery of the First CornerStone Bank located at 368 Schuylkill Rd. in Phoenixville.

On Thursday, July 18, at about 10:30 A.M., a white male approximately 5’6” with a and a full tattoo sleeve and wearing jeans, a black tee shirt and black boots entered the bank and presented a demand note to a bank teller before escaping on foot with an undisclosed amount of money which he concealed within a fast food bag.

After its broadcast of the robbery information reached other law enforcement agencies, the East Pikeland Police Department was contacted by the PA State Police in Jonestown (Troop J) stating that the State Police were investigating four similar robberies in and around Berks County which took place within several days of the First CornerStone robbery.

On July 25, the Phoenix Reporter & Item spoke with Corporal Martin of the East Pikeland Police Department, who stated that there was a suspect who had been taken into custody in Maryland who was believed to be involved in the spree of robberies, and that developments would be revealed following multi-jurisdictional coordination among the investigating law enforcement agencies.

A press release received from the East Pikeland Police Department on July 29 stated that a person matching the description of the actor in the First CornerStone Bank robbery was taken into custody by the Maryland State Police on the evening of July 23 for robbing a bank in Ocean City, Maryland. The East Pikeland Police obtained a photo of the defendant and showed it in a photo line to the bank employees at CornerStone Bank who positively identified the actor as the same person who robbed them. After the employees made the identification a warrant was issued for Heath Andrew Derizzo, 36, of 27 N. Cameron Street in Harrisburg, Pa.

A press release received from the East Pikeland Police Department on July 29 stated, “This case was solved through the cooperative effort on the part of many law enforcement agencies working together to solve this and other robberies. We want to thank everyone including the bank employees for their assistance in this investigation.”
