University of Delaware senior quarterback Trevor Sasek, a Spring-Ford graduate from Limerick, has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Football Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the Blue Hens’ 32-31 upset victory over Towson Nov. 2 evening.
Sasek’s award marked the second straight week and the third time this season that a Blue Hen player has been honored by the league. Redshirt freshman punter Eric Enderson was named Rookie of the Week on Oct. 27 for his efforts in a 35-13 win over Rhode Island while senior wide receiver Rob Jones as named Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 7 for his efforts against Delaware State.
Sasek, a 6-6, 225-pounder, made the most of his first start of the season and the fourth of his career, leading then No. 21 Delaware back from 21 points down in the fourth quarter to top No. 7-ranked Towson, 32-31. Sasek started in place of junior Trent Hurley, who did not see action due to an injury suffered in the win over Rhode Island on Oct. 26.
Sasek set career-highs with 34-of-46 passing for 330 yards and three touchdowns, which included scoring tosses and the game-winning two-point conversion in the final 48 seconds of play. Sasek’s 34 completions also marked the third-most in school history. He tossed a 16-yard TD pass to Jerel Harrison in the first quarer and added scoring passes of 11 yards to Michael Johnson with 48 seconds left and three yards to Jones with 19 seconds left.
For the season, Sasek is 39-for-57 for 418 yards, four touchdowns and just one interception.
Delaware (7-2, 4-1 CAA) is now ranked No. 15 in the Division I-AA polls. The Blue Hens are at home Nov. 9 against No. 23 William & Mary (6-3, 3-2) at 3 p.m. at Delaware Stadium.
