It’s a tie, unofficially, for the fourth and final seat on Collegeville’s Borough Council. According to Montgomery County Voter Services’ unofficial results Democrat Andrea Baptiste and Republican Arnold Mann are locked at 357 votes each.
The top three vote-getters for Collegeville were Republican Roderick Rees, with 365 votes (13.26% of the total votes cast), Democrat Catherine Kernen, with 360 votes (13.08%) and Republican Rowan Keenan, with 358 votes (13%).
Rees and Keenan will retain their seats on council and Kernan, who previously served on council, will take the place of Republican Paul MacDonald, who finished eight votes behind Baptiste and Mann.
According the website of Collegeville Borough (, Mann first became a councilman in 1992 and serves on the Finance Committee, the Streets and Roads Committee chair, the Planning Commission, the Collegeville-Trappe Sewer Authority, and the Collegeville-Trappe Public Works Committee. He previously served as Council President and has called Collegeville home since 1968.
Baptiste is a realtor with Long & Foster Realtors and a former member of Collegeville Borough Council. According to, the online home of The Area 4 Democratic Committee (which serves the Democratic constituents including those in Collegeville) Baptiste was elected to council in 2007, but lost her re-election bid in 2011. In a Phoenix Reporter & Item pre-election questionnaire, Baptiste and her fellow democrats championed being “proactive in shaping Collegeville’s future” by developing the borough to emulate “Phoenixville’s thriving restaurant, arts and music culture and Skippack’s niche boutiques and restaurants.”
In phone call placed to a representative of the Election Board of Montgomery County on Nov. 6, the Phoenix Reporter & Item was informed that it could take two to three weeks before the official results are announced.
