Andrew Layser, a 12-year-old from Collegeville and a member of theMontgomery County Quarter Midget Racing Club (MCQMRC), was honored by the club at itsannual banquet on Nov. 2 as the 2013 MCQMRC Driver of the Year.
He participated in the 2013 Quarter Midgets of America Dirt Grand Nationals in TerreHaute, Ind., in August 2013. Competing in three of the 15 engine classes, Andrew had the fastest time in Senior Honda and Light World Formula. His qualifying time set a new track record in Light World Formula. He put all three of his cars in the A Main feature events, placing third in Light World Formula and winning the Senior Honda and Light 160 classes to become the QMA 2013 Dirt Grands Senior Honda and Light 160 National champion.
Andrew also competed in the United States Auto Club .25 Midget Honda Dirt NationalChampionship Series and won the 2013 Light 160 Class National Championship. This was anational four-race point series with races in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Ohio. He also finishedsecond overall in Senior Honda and Light World Formula.
At the local track, Andrew had more than 35 feature wins this year in his three classes.
Andrew races Quarter Midgets weekly with the Montgomery County Club.The track is locatedin Phoenixville. He has been racing Quarter Midgets since the age of 5.
