ROYERSFORD — Not many eateries have incorporated peanut butter on a burger.
The Peanut Bar and Grille — Royersford’s newest restaurant — has done it, and they call it the Goober Burger.
If you are craving peanut butter, you can also choose to try the restaurant’s house dressing — peanut buttervinaigrette or desserts — chocolate peanut butter pie and triple peanut butter chocolate cake.
Customers have a wide selection from the menu to choose from at the restaurant and bar located at 301 N. Lewis Road. The Peanut Bar and Grill, owned by Donna and Duane Norris, opened Aug. 26, and recently held a grand opening.
Donna Norris has many years of experience working in the restaurant and bar business. She is also the owner of The Peanut Gallery Tavern in East Norriton, which inspired the name of the new Royersford business.
The East Norriton restaurant has been a family business for almost 40 years. Donna Norris said her father and his brother owned the property while it was The Glass Rack. Her father and his brother parted ways and her father was the sole owner. In 1992, it became the Peanut Gallery Tavern, and in 2005 her father sold the business to Norris.
Norris was interested in starting a business with her husband, Duane.
“My dad taught me well,” she said. “Now I am using that experience to run my own bar and restaurant.”
Norris said she and husband Duane were looking for a location that was large enough for a bar and restaurant. Luck would have it that there was a vacant restaurant that they were happy to set their sights on.
“Our daughter, Danielle started working in this area and her co-worker kept on saying that there were no peanut bars around here,” Norris said. “It was an opportunity we couldn’t pass up.”
The new restaurant is in a location that may be familiar — the former Chic Snyder’s.
Norris said although the business basically has the same set-up, it is “a new and fresh bar” under her and her husband’s ownership. Donna concentrates on the front end management of the establishment, hostessing and interacting with customers. Duane, who Donna said is the better cook, oversees the kitchen.
The head chef at The Peanut Bar and Grill is Aloysius (“Butch”) Nase who previously owned the Audubon Inn.
The food choices at the Peanut Bar and Grill are different from the Peanut Gallery Tavern, which offers mainly just tavern food. The Peanut Bar and Grill in Royersford offers a full dinner menu.
Duane Norris said, “We can’t take anything off of the menu. Everything is selling. There is something for everyone.”
Duane and Donna said that burgers and wings have been among the popular menu items. Also on the menu are slippery chicken pot pie, corn fritters and mussels. The dinner menu also features make your own pasta.
Customers can also enjoy a wide selection at the bar, with 12 beers on draft and a wine selection among many other choices.
Not only does The Peanut Bar and Grill offer a variety of menu choices, but also a variety of live entertainment.
DJ Eileen and Jeff Speck of New Horizon lead Karaoke each Tuesday. The DJs also entertain customers on Fridays. Bands and other live entertainment are planned for Saturday nights.
The business will also host a Halloween Costume Contest on Nov. 2.
Those who want who enjoy some friendly competition may want to check out The Peanut’s game room. A pool league will be using the game room, and the owners said they are looking for more pool leagues to enjoy the game room.
Customers can also play Golden Tee or play the Megatouch game machine.
The Peanut is also a place where customers can go to watch football. There are eight HDTVs that have NFL Network and Redzone.
The Peanut Bar and Grill in Royersford is open from 11 to 2 a.m. seven days a week. The only holiday the business will close for is Christmas.
