UPPER PROVIDENCE — The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office joined the Upper Providence Police Department in investigating last weekend’s motorcycle crash that killed a 65-year-old man from Royersford.

John Newett died of his injuries at Hahnemann University Hospital Sunday night.

He’d been airlifted there following the crash which occurred around 1:10 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Route 29 and Arcola Road.

According to the Upper Providence Police, Newett and another motorcyclist traveled eastbound on Arcola Road “with the green light” when an SUV allegedly failed to stop and struck the lead motorcycle, pushing it into a westbound vehicle.

Newett’s motorcycle ended up underneath the SUV.

Initial police reports indicated that Newett suffered serious head and leg injuries.

The Upper Providence Police said the investigation was still in its early stages and that they’re still speaking with the district attorney’s office about it, so they could not speculate on charges related to the crash as of yet.
