PHOENIXVILLE — The Phoenixville Area School Board confirmed recommendations made by the Phoenixville Public Library Board of Trustees to appoint four new trustees Thursday.

Mike English, Don Titus, Joe Kory and Michelle Benner all join the board of trustees after a unanimous vote.

“They were all very good candidates and it was a very difficult decision,” said Susan Meadows, the president of the library’s board of trustees.

Meadows made the recommendations her board came up with to the school board in the workshop meeting Thursday night.

Six candidates interviewed for the four open positions.

“I’d like to thank all the folks who put themselves forward. It was a really great process,” said school board President Joshua Gould. “We had some really strong candidates. Congratulations to the four (new trustees).”

English, Titus and Kory will serve three-year terms and Benner will serve for nine months to finish out the term of a trustee who resigned.

The vote to approve the new trustees was the first trial in a new system and timeline for approving trustees at the library, which the Phoenixville Area School District funds.

In a June 20 meeting, school board member Dave Ziev, who also sits on the library board of trustees, laid out the plans for the new process which would begin once the current vacancies were filled.

The plan included a solicitation for new trustees in April, reviews and some interviews in May by the school board, recommendations by the library’s board that same month, then nominations and voting in June.

Ziev is joined on the library board of trustees by Gould and Phoenixville Schools Superintendent Alan Fegley.
