LIMERICK — A man managed to escape his truck without injury and with some of his valuables after flames consumed it late Tuesday afternoon.
Sergeant Matt Daywalt of the Limerick Police said the man was driving a Dodge 1500 pickup truck along Lightcap Road just west of Possum Hollow Road just after 4:30 p.m. when the trouble started.
“He was driving along, then he noticed smoke coming through the vents,” Daywalt said.
After the driver got out, Daywalt said “the engine compartment was engulfed.”
Thick black smoke poured into the air from the flames in the truck’s front end.
The man, who was reportedly coming from a job interview in the area and the only occupant, was not injured but his truck was severely damaged. According to Daywalt, the man was even able to get some of his things out with him.
It is unclear how the fire started but signs point toward a mechanical failure.
The fire’s heat partially damaged the road, Daywalt said, so Lightcap Road was closed near Possum Hollow Road for roughly three hours until township road crews could completely repair everything.
“Everything’s open now,” Daywalt said Tuesday night.
In spite of his truck’s destruction Tuesday, the driver reportedly got some good news: he got the job he was interviewing for.
