PennDOT: Two day lane closure for I76 in Montco this week

The following information was provided by PennDOT

King of Prussia – An overnight lane closure is scheduled this week on eastbound Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) near the Route 23 Interchange in Lower Merion Township, Montgomery County, for concrete barrier installation and traffic line painting, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation said today.

Eastbound I-76 will be reduced from two lanes to one from 11 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 22) to 5 a.m. Friday (Aug. 23) as crews set barriers on the outside shoulder to establish a protected work area. The eastbound right lane will be closed during this operation. In the event of rain, the work will be rescheduled to the following night.

This operation is part of PennDOT’s $2.3 million project to enhance safety along eastbound I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) by stabilizing the rocky hillside adjacent to the eastbound lanes. The plan consists of removing loose rock and vegetation, and bolting the remaining rock in place as a preventative measure to keep rock from falling onto the expressway.

Buckley and Company, Inc. of Philadelphia is the general contractor on the $2,284,286 project that is financed with 100 percent state funds. Construction is scheduled to finish in November.

PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to www.511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on I-76 and other major highways before heading out.
