YMCA hosts annual archery shoot

SCHUYLKILL - The 8th Annual Archery Distance Competition was held July 27 on the lower field of the Phoenixville Area YMCA.
A total of 21 archers, ages 6 to adult, participated in the event using recurve, compound and the longbow. No sights were used on the bows.
All participants received medals with gold medals going to the first-place winners in each age group.
This year’s overall winner was first-time archer John Hotalen, hitting at 55 yards.
Second place overall of the second year in a row went to 7-year-old Olivia Mulligan, who hit at 50 yards. In 2012, Mulligan surprised everyone with her skill as an archer by hitting 55 yards. Coach Joe Grejdus expects a first-place medal for Olivia next year.
Third place went to last year’s first-place winner, Jennifer Forte. Jenn hit at 45 yards using the longbow.
Grejdus thanked parents and grandparents who helped to set up and take down the field and move targets.
