Steel City Coffee House August Shows

Monday, July 29, 2013

Steel City Coffee House has announced the following shows for August
Saturday, August 10 at 8:00pm
Johnny’s Dance Band
Johnny’s Dance Band reigned supreme in Philly from 1974 to 1982.
They even set some local records. After WMMR listeners voted
them #1 Local Band, they played the station’s 9th Birthday at
the then empty dirt lots of Penn’s Landing. Playing on flatbed
trucks, they drew 20,000 fans. JDB was the only unrecorded,
unsigned act to ever play the 19,000 seat Spectrum - simply based
upon local popularity. But, the satirical cabaret show has always
been their strength. The group’s popularity stems from what they
call their “Rock ‘n Roll Vaudeville” style. They are enormously
entertaining, and all the while playing some super original
rock ‘n roll. Johnny’s Dance Band’s music and show are as unique
and memorable as anything you’ve ever witnessed. Original
members, Tony Juliano, Bobby Lenti and Courtney Colletti now
join forces with new members, Su Teears and George Manney.
The New JDB is doing a great job of living up to the legend.

Jim Boggia with TBA
Multi-instrumentalist/popsmith Jim Boggia is the kind of hyper-kinetic guy who may never need an iPod because he’s already got instant recall of practically every song he’s ever heard and loved. Like a digital player permanently set in shuffle mode, he accesses riffs and rhymes with a sort of free-associative glee. From the Kinks to NRBQ to Monty Python and Peter Sellers, Jim can find the emotional and musical thread that links all great music, and do it on the fly, in the moment, with not a stutter to be found. His performances are legendary and you won’t want to miss this show!
